DIGIPOL: Platform Observability and Democratic Oversight
DIGIPOL is an EU-funded research project on digital platforms, public visibility, and democratic accountability. It examines how platform-mediated information environments can be observed, understood, and governed in the public interest, and develops practical resources to support stronger independent scrutiny.
About the project
DIGIPOL is a research project examining how digital platforms shape public visibility and how platform-mediated information environments can be better understood and assessed in the public interest. Bringing together questions of transparency, access, accountability, and governance, the project has produced a coherent set of research, policy-oriented resources, and public-facing materials on platform observability and democratic oversight. Carried out across the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute, DIGIPOL combined conceptual research, policy reflection, and public dissemination.
